Investigative journalists from Russia (and the former U.S.S.R), Eastern Europe, The Balkans, Caucasus, Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America are now welcome to apply for grants that will cover their travel and stay at the Global Investigative Journalism Conference 2008 at Lillehammer, Norway.
We especially invite journalists who are willing to show and share their experiences and work, through presentations at the conference. If you are able to demonstrate how you worked with your life’s best investigative story, you might pick up free tickets and stay at the conference in the olympic city of Lillehammer, Norway.
Our goal is to gather some of the world’s best examples of investigative journalism in recent years. Between 400 and 500 investigative reporters are expected to participate at the conference.
The main focus during seminars will be journalistic work methods, how journalists are using their skills, patience, eagerness to dig up dirt and neat techniques to get in touch with sources, better research material and in the end, good stories that makes a difference.
We are also going to cover how difficult it is to do investigative journalism in certain parts of the world.
GIJ2008 is also going to be a unique place to do networking to get your own global contact net. We intend to facilitate trans-national investigative journalism cooperation on the topics you cover.
Funding from SKUP (The Norwegian foundation for investigative journalism), Norway’s Foreign Ministry and cooperating investigative journalism organizations will help us make the Lillehammer event a true Global conference.
Please send your applications to gijc2008@gmail.com.
Please supply the application with your CV, a short summary of your work in the field of investigative journalism and personal references. It will also help us if you can get references from organizations working with investigative journalism.
The final deadline for applications is 25th March 2008. No entries after this date will be accepted.
Applications will be evaluated as they come in. You will be hearing from us regarding your application!

We will possibly be able to invite between 50 and 70 journalists on the funding we have, if we are able to book early and cheap air tickets for everybody!
So fill in your application now!

Is it possible to get funding for more than one reporter from a single location? Journalists here in Timor-Leste have no money and very little opportunity to meet colleagues, and we have a group who would benefit immensely from attending your conference.
thanks for any info

To the questions:
Question: Is it possible to get funding for more than one reporter from a single location?
Answer: Yes, if you convince us that you have a splendid presentation of an investigative journalism project, we might invite a pair of journalists from the same place.
Question: Can media organisations whose candidates do not succeed for grants sponsor their own candidate?
Answer: Of course! We will open for normal registration late February. So if you can pay your own way: Welcome to Lillehammer!
Question: When is the deadline for aplications?
Answer: We have now put the deadline to apply for grants to March 25th.
Question: Do you need letters of reference or just names, phones, emails.
Answer: Names, phones, emails or links to relevant Internet resurces (web pages) is good enough.
Question: Do you need working references or personal references.
Answer: Just tell us where you have been working, for how long and what you have done. We will check the background of all applicants, and will give grants after certain specifications.
Good luck!

Hello! Could I send you the information in another language? (I speak Spanish, my CV and references’s letters are also in this language)
Is there a specific rule about the languages we have to use in the presentations?
I’m a really young investigave reporter, but I’ve published some good stories from my period of interships (from 2005 to 2006) in the same newspaper where I’m working currently, after my graduation… I’m participating in some local concourses.
Well, Im going to send you the information soon.
Regards

Dear conference committee,
I’ve surely looked at all comments regarding references but still a little bit unclear. So, can I just put on names and phones of prospective references? If we actually need letters, in what form do you accept those? (as a document sent directly from my reference e-mail address? or can I attach word docs with my e-mail?)
Also how many references to you need. Is there a required number? One? Two?
Thank you very much.
Jan Gunnar Furuly // March 13, 2008 at 12:29 am |
Hello!
It is very simple: Just write your references in an e-mail to us, names, phone number and e-mails will do.
There is NO need to get these documents as letter from your references.

Hi,
Thank you for the opportunity. Somalia editors and Journalists are happy to be with you.
Since some of investigative reporters found them selves exiled from Somalia, it seems our career thougher than before, we feel co-operation and coordiantion on the job and East Africa Journalists welcome and in-need of worldwide co-workers. Thanks a lot.
